I wanted to take a moment to tell anyone out there who reads this that you are special, beautiful, capable, and needed. We have been so beaten over the heads with cynicism, selfishness, pro-narcissistic advice, and general trollishness that it makes hearing something like that seem absurdly saccharin and naive. It is not.
You are special. You are special because it is the genuine truth. No one else exists that is exactly like you. You can always bring a perspective that is valuable to general discourse and true truth-seeking discussion. Your history may resonate with others’ or enlighten others on what they don’t yet know. Truth matters and truth comes from the aggregation of perspectives, all different, upon an object or event. Our perspectives help to build an image of truth, a whole and complete truth. Your voice matters, your life matters, and you being special is essential to a life of truth we can all share.
You are beautiful. You are beautiful because you are a culmination of the work and movement of millions of beautiful and remarkable cells. What should be chaos is instead ordered through majestic evolution to build an incredible form. That form has weathered environmental stresses as well as internal ones and still sits whole. It’s incredible really. What could be a mass of gelatinous goo in the ocean is instead a sturdy, textured, weathered, unique-looking creature. There is beauty in that. There is beauty in the hardness and softness that makes us the animal we are. Accept your flaws as boons; they define you. A block of stone is flawless but also lifeless and boring. The flaws upon the block, the chips in the stone, sculpt a unique being, something greater than simple perfection, something beautiful.
You are capable. You are capable because you can care. You can sympathize, empathize, and act upon others. You can bestow gifts of care. Our skills are not all only external mechanical activities. They are mostly the things we can only express through time and living. You can be disciplined, caring, hopeful, logical, and appreciative. These are not talents, these are skills that take work, and many people don’t fully put in the time. However, they are the skills that really matter and you are fully capable of epitomizing them all.
You are needed. Someone needs you, whether they’ve told you or not. It may be your best friend, or someone you’ve yet to meet, but someone needs your courtesy and respect. This is so important. I am chronically lonely and immensely sad without provocation quite often. These bouts of depression are pushed aside whenever I realize that I am needed and when I invest myself into fulfilling that call. I have to be reminded, as we all do, but it feels like such a natural, primal fulfillment when it happens. Also, you must allow yourself to see how much you need others. Just as those who cannot trust cannot be trustworthy, those who never need are never needed. We just have to begin to really see and bring out those parts of ourselves.
With all of this, don’t let your desire to be clever or to be cutting be your downfall in this life. Any evil person can be clever and cutting. Many people love to break things down, topple what has been built, burn what has been grown. This gives many people a sense of comfort, knowing they have bested something. It is still nothing compared to the dedication and work within a simple expression of care. To show you care is a sign of vulnerability and that is why only the strong are capable of it. The weak are petty and clever. The strong are caring and noble. Be conscious of who you are being and the example you are setting.
I know that this all might come across as pretentious, sappy, corny, self-aggrandizing, whatever. It doesn’t bother me. I felt the need to share today and told myself to do it. If just one person reads it and thinks they might spread a caring word to someone else, then I’ve succeeded. Just remember, as always, I care about you. You are fantastic and you can do fantastic things. Thank you for being you. Cheers!
